The 5000 Words Short Story Competition

  • Art and Creativity is proud to be running a writing competition for all aspiring and self-published authors to stand a chance of winning A Digital Publishing Contract valued at R2500.00. Sales royalties calculated as per distribution. Full marketing, promotion, book and author launches. 100% Copyright ownership to the Author.

    How to enter:

    Write a short story not more than 5000 words. Stories can be in any genre of your choice. Only fiction stories accepted.

    Please ensure you use single spacing, Arial font 11pt. Manuscripts accepted in editable Word or PDF format only.

COMPETITION TERMS AND CONDITIONS

  1. By entering this competition, you accept and agree to the following terms and conditions which will govern the competition. Furthermore, you verify that you are unaware of any reason legally prohibiting you from entering this competition and, if the competition requires the submission of photographs, artwork or images of people, or of anything else that requires consent or copyright, that you have the necessary consent and authority to do so, if required. Any entrant who contravenes these rules may be disqualified from the competition. The rules can only be modified by the Promoters in a written revision posted on the competition Facebook page or any other official competition communication methods.
  2. This is a digitally run competition. Only entries received online via the Promoter’s official
    email address or website will be accepted.
  3. The Promoters of this competition are Art and Creativity
  4. Anyone is welcome to enter the competition, locally. Prize winners and non-prize winners will be notified via email. Winners will also be posted on all our social media pages, FB, IG and LinkedIn as well as our website.
  5. The competition will run from 26th September until 1st November for entry applications and manuscript submissions must be submitted by no later than 1st November at 16h00. Late or incomplete entries will not be accepted. No responsibility will be accepted for entries lost, delayed or damaged in transmission. Entries reflected on the Promoter’s records will
    be treated as the only validation source and will be the only evidence of successful entries. Please ensure only quality submissions are entered.
  6. To enter the competition: You need to write a short story not more than 5000 words. Stories can be in any genre of your choice. Only fiction stories accepted. Please ensure you use single spacing, Arial font 11pt. Manuscripts accepted in editable Word or PDF format only.
  7. There will be only one winner who will receive:
  • 1st Place: A Digital Publishing Contract valued at R2500.00. Sales royalties calculated as per distribution. Full marketing, promotion, book and author launches. 100% Copyright ownership to the Author.
  • The prize is neither negotiable nor transferable, and may not be exchanged for cash.
  • The prize may be subject to additional terms and conditions not mentioned hereunder,
    but in accordance with relevant South African legislation. The Promoters reserve the right to substitute a prize of equal or greater value if the original prize becomes unavailable for any unforeseen reason.
  • The stories submitted will be shortlisted for final judging announced via social media, email and the Promoter’s website: www.artandcreativity.co.za.
  1. By entering this competition, the entrant consents that the Promoter may use names and
    images taken of the winners for publicity purposes, without any further remuneration
    being payable to the winner. The winner may decline to participate in any promotional
    activity by notifying the Promoter in writing. All promotional material will become the
    sole property of the Promoter.
  2. The judges’ decision is final and no correspondence will be entered into.
  3. You may not enter the competition if you are a director, member, partner, employee,
    tenant (or employee of a tenant), agent, consultant or supplier to the Promoters, or their
    respective spouses, partners, family members (parents, siblings and children), business
    partners or associates.
  4. Participants in this competition hereby indemnify, release and hold harmless the
    Promoters and their successors, employees, officers, suppliers, contractors, agents,
    consultants, directors and shareholders from and against any losses, claims, proceedings,
    actions, damages, liability for harm, injury or death, demands, expenses or any costs
    howsoever arising out of their participation in this competition or their use of the prizes,
    and/or any person with whom they share that prize.
  5. The laws of the Republic of South Africa govern this competition.
  6. Participants understand and agree that in order to offer the competition, the Promoter
    must collect and use personal information about participants.
  7. The Promoters reserve the right to cancel, modify or amend the competition at any time
    if deemed necessary in their own opinion or if circumstances arise outside of their control.
  8. Application Forms must be accompanied by a Proof of Payment of the entry fee and will not be considered for entry should this not be paid.
  9. Application forms to be completed and signed by consenting adult for applicants under 18 years and copy of consenting adult’s ID to be attached.
  10. Please ensure all three pages are initialed.

Kindly note that all participants who are not selected for the prize giving and do not win a prize, still walk away with a free workshop ticket whereby your submissions will be edited, designed, published and distributed should you so wish. The workshop is valued at R750.00.

Stories can be anything of your choice. The 5000 word short story must have an introduction, body and epilogue. Continuations are allowed to present an opportunity for a future series.

The Book Cover Design Competition

  • Art and Creativity is proud to be running a book cover design competition for all aspiring and seasoned designers to stand a chance of winning a full review, 3 month promotion via Art and Creativity, i.e. marketing, referral and contract awarding. Credited as Book Cover designer on all published works.
